Proposed as the first of four seasonal specials, The Wilderness is based on Steve McCarthy’s award-winning book. Filled with heart, the magic of nature, comedy and music this beautifully animated half hour special will be adapted for screen by Oscar-nominated Sam Morrison (Robin Robin – Aardman/Netflix) and co-produced by Bafta Winning and Emmy nominated studio Lighthouse Studios.

 

Oktober is an eight year-old bookworm with a penchant for sensationalist survival fiction. He sees nature as a fiesta of dangers: appalling animals, poisonous plants and crazy crevasses of doom. When his outdoor-loving family drags him on a camping trip, all his fears come to life when he gets lost in the very place he’s trying to avoid. But instead of doom, he meets The Wilderness — a towering, leafy and mysterious creature embodying the natural world itself. Oktober discovers the ‘monster’ is not actually out to get him – and by befriending it the Wilderness changes his perception of everything, including himself.
